Hi everyone,

I have a quick question. I have alot of wood that came with the lathe I bought and most of it is labelled but there are a few pices that are not.

I have used two of these pieces to turn bowls and would love to know what the timber is so I can add that into the description. Here are some pics:

It has the letters NIH on it in pencil. I had a look around and Huon Pine looks very similar in colour to it but I dont know enough about timber identification to be sure. The wood is quite soft and turns easily. Here is a pic of one of the bowls if it helps.

Timber looks like Norfolk Island Pine, but bark looks wrong for NIP (and Jacaranda). Have no idea what the bark looks like for Norfolk Island Hibiscus, but the initials are right :-

I found the number of the person I bought this off of and sent her a message asking what it is and she confirmed it to be Norfolk Island Hibiscus.

Ten points to wood hacker for getting it right!

Ten points to wood hacker for getting it right!Got here just a bit late! How wierd is that - I use the same abbreviation on all my stocks of NIH :cool: Good find Charl as long as the blue-stain hasn't got to it. Beautiful white timber to work with - machines great, sands great, burns well for pryography etc etc etc :2tsup:. I use it as a contrast timber in a lot of my work and even planted two in the backyard in case I run out in a few years time :U . . . . . . . . . Did I get the message across ???? :;
