A couple of weeks ago I asked you all (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/what-do-what-do-175121/) what sort of finish I should apply to a Blackwood platter I was working on. Thanks for all your advice however in the end I decided to go with Nitrocellulose Lacquer. As suggested, the grain 'popped' spectacularly. I decided to keep this platter very simple, I wanted the timber to do the talking. It's 300mm in diameter, 25mm deep and 6mm thick at the edge/rim.
So here it is and I'm very pleased with the end result. Sanded to 400g, friction polished and finally 2 coats of nitrocellulose lacquer buffed with 0000 steel wool in-between and after.
