Thought I might try my hand at a platter, not sure of the timber, just oiled and rub over with a rag

Very different, I was expecting a standard run of the mill platter but you've surprised me. The more I look at it the more I like it. Great work :)

Looks fantastic Hughie :2tsup: Might be better to make it a wall hanging though - wouldn't like to be trying to clean guacamole dip out of the carved bits :;

Thanks for all the positive comments. As I said I dont do very many platters if any at all so its good to get the feed back. :2tsup:
Its all hand carved with a fair bit of sanding especially across the end grain. Luckily the timber is soft and easy to work unlike the Eucalyptus bowl previously.

Phil spoke to the guy who supplied the pieces and yes it Banksia.

Hi Hughie, While it is always good to identify the wood the important factor is the end result, and I reckon you can take a bow for this one.Great looking piece. Brian.

I like how casually you say you'd "try your hand at a platter" :D

It looks fantastic, the carvings make it very modern, yet have that hint of an almost Celtic look. I like it very much!

Well thanks for all the great comments. I thought it might look good after sketching it out of paper. But it doesn't always follow through that its so. My sketch is only a guide and most times it gets changed mid stride.
