got here about 10:30 yesterday. A bit earlier than I thought and on top of that Raechell went to TAFE though she said she was going to stay home (our Monday) so I had much to do with the kids and no help to prep for the visit.

Anyway he came to the 'Hilton' and all was well. We had to work on shade and the like but it got done.

The original set up so we could watch from the lawn. But we got to thinking as at this stage there was only one shade sail up that the audience may get hot. So up with the second sail as seen below and it was time to move the equipment. The lathe was a little low for so up an some 5" x 5" and things were more his height.

The local club supported the event with 4 other members, members wives and my kids were in and out.

One of the wives said this before she left, "I don't even do woodwork and I found it interesting!"

There was other bonuses for me. My Lathe got 'tuned' and finally got my sharpening system set up. It is Tru-Grind by Woodcut. did a couple of chisels and now the rest for me.

I cant remember the name of this particular roughing gouge but says he has a similar one that he puts a 'thumb nail' grind on so I have decided to do the same.

Thanks

I thoroughly enjoyed your visit.

One thing I like about is not only can he turn and show you how to do things but ... All the knowledge he has on turning history and how things were and are made.

My little girl, Samantha-Josephine (AKA Sammy), though quite shy seemed to take quite a shine to .

When I came back from the shop she came running to me and said, "Look! Grandpa!'

Sammy can be seen on a green chair in the last group picture.

My initial thoughts would have been Santa. :santa2:

Would need to bleach his beard.

Tyler, my boy seen in the next picture came running to the door at the same time saying, "Daddy, Daddy! Your best friend is here!"

Sammy said 'grandpa' but the kids don't have one.

Tyler said 'your best friend' - is he saying I have no friends lol

Well sometimes you have one of those days, then it turns into a week and more.

Not this time. Things went well. I had drop in for a couple of days at the start of his trip.

Now I hit the jackpot. came back (maybe he felt sorry for me after seeing my turning ;) )

Last time round we were out on the back slab under a shade sail or two. This time I had a make shift shed. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/11/u7ata7am.jpg

Here is a little more of what happened yesterday

A view as you walk in the door
296938

Left to Right - Geoff Ford, Allan Matherson, Peter ......, George Hill and you may know Tyler, my son, from previous posts
296937

Proof of life ...... yes was here
296939

These guys all turned up just after 10:00 though the demo was not meant to be till 16:00. started early and this lot stayed mostly till about 15:30. You see the centre you sent being put to good use. As a production turner has 'no time' for holding bits on while he winds the tailstock in. Below he was giving a demo on beads and coves, the combination there of and the use of fillets. He said that all turning can be broken up into 3 cuts,
beads
coves
straight lines
"in fact" he said, "all turning is straight lines that just has some humps and bumps"
296940

It was a very informative demo and I had the privilege of getting a condensed version in the arvo as well as the morning / lunch version. went through the process of shape and design and then how to copy
296941

Later Guy and Malcolm turned up (left to right)
296942

Above you see now the sample leg screwed in the holder as a visual aid for copying. Sammy came to like . At first she was calling him 'Rocho'
296943

Thanks again , I really appreciated all the time you spent with me :)
