Been having some lathe time to give me a short break from making toys. So I thought that I would have a go at some pierced work as the only one I had done previous was the whirlpool bowl (First Picture)

300028

So the first one below is American Black Walnut not to happy about the piercing (Drilled holes) This is approximately 5" across for got to measure this one

Second attempt this one I was a lot happier with and had great fun making again ABW and measures 6" along each edge stand 1 3/8" tall the wings are 1/8" thick,

Any comments on how I can improve the piercing if any would be much appreciated.

I love pieces like that but the triangle bowl is the pick of the litter for me... I love it :)

The first is very interesting, I like the second a lot, but love the third, triangular, one too.
Very nice work Derek.
I'd be nervous to take to a completed piece with a drill, but you've shown how effective it can be. More food for thought.

Thank you all I must admit that the triangular one is my favourite one as well but I enjoyed making all of them.

Steve I felt like that before taking on the first of any thing that either involves cutting or making holes:sweat: in a nicely shaped/turned piece:o (well in my eyes anyway). It is just a case of taking the bull by the horns and having a go.
