G'day
Was out doing my morning dogwalk this morning when I came upon this chap who was carrying a freshly cut branch out of his yard.Now this house has(had) a large cotonyaster bush hanging over the fence that I have been lusting after for years and he confirmed thats what it was. While I was talking to him, his helper came out carrying an even larger branch.So I asked if they could hold them for me while I went home and got the ute.While loading up I asked where the rest of the tree was and he said it was promised to his mate down the road for firewood . Thats where it was going to when I interupted.Still I got a nice stock with pieces up to 100mm.
For anyone who hasn't tried it,cotonyaster is a dream to turn and should be great for thread cutting in a few years time.

Never mind endangered species, there should be a must read list of turning timbers that tree-loppers ignore at their peril. Together with my address on top of course.:D

Cotoneaster is a substitute for Boxwood. I've had some in the shed for a couple of years, I should see how it is going.

Hi All,
Well your a very lucky fella.
I consider it to be one of the best Turning Timbers ever.
My Favourite by far. Pretty hard to get, & very Stable.
I have had a Dry Shaving, with my P&N Roughing Gouge, 26ft. long.
Guess what, there wasn't a soul to show it too, before the wind got it
So you have to believe ME.
I make String Pull Spinning Tops 75 to 100mm. wide from Cotoneaster. Spin forever, well ???.

This cotoneaster is one with red berrys.I hope they're all good.
By the way ,the original heading for this posting was "wood pawn"only pawn was spelt differently.There must be some sort of filter that removes unapproved words.
