Good luck Tikki :) Wombat2 15th Jun 2005, 04:43 PM Somewhere I have plans for a vertical wheel I built about 20 years ago. If interested I could dig them out and post copies to you terry taylor 23rd Aug 2005, 03:44 AM I have been searching for a spinning wheel plan also. were you able to dig up those plans? Andy Mac 23rd Aug 2005, 10:07 AM We've got a number of spinning wheels at work here, and I can post some piccies if you want (and when I learn to get the files small enough:o ), esp. close ups may be of help when you start assembly. Cheers kekemo 24th Aug 2005, 01:21 PM I just did a quick search for wooden wheel.... http://www.applehollow.com/ahf-ueparts.html thats what comes up on my page, guess if you load just to the .com it should come up at front page...hope this helps kerry Skew ChiDAMN!! 24th Aug 2005, 07:22 PM Errrm... any reason you're specifically looking for plans?? If you've any familiarity with 'em, you're better off designing your own. The basics are pretty simple, after all, the hardest parts to make are the wheel and the flier. Especially the flier... I dislike working from plans 'cos they tend to lock you into a "mass production" mode, whereas a good spinning wheel should be matched to the end user. "Minor" details like the height of the flier, treadle rate, the ratio of bobbin:flier whorls, the weight of the yarn to be spun and, more importantly, the experience of the spinner all have major influences on whether the end result is usable. Plans generally don't allow for these. ;) On the other hand, if you're totally ignorant, well... good luck! :D Somewhere around here (rummage, rummage) I do have a couple of plans from old mags. From memory one's a Castle type (an upright) & the other's a Saxony style, a replica Samuel Crompton I think. I can also scan a few pages from one or two of my books to give you an idea of the basic principles (determining ratios, etc.) I won't set up a link here, not too sure of copyrights and I gotta find 'em first. ;) If you want more info PM me... 'Eres a couple of pics of a SWheel I built for my mother some 20 year ago and still in use, and one I'm in the process of building from Redgum. The latter is only at force-fit stage, later I'll disassemble it and start shaping and adding details. arcronet 28th Apr 2006, 07:03 PM Hi Shayrebel, I think I can help you regarding your plan search. ;) My Dad & I owned Sheridan Spinning & weaving Mfg.Co. for some 15 yrs between the late 60's to the early 80's. During those years we managed to mass produce some 5000 spinning wheels with the aid of 4 other apprenticed wood craftsmen and 6 general machine and assembly hands. Dad & I also restored many unique & antique wheels from all over the world for many of the Spinners of Victorian Spinners & Weavers Guild and other Guilds throughout Australia. My Dad in recognition of the many requests from both the Hand Spinners & Woodcrafts men has produced an unparalled book titled Understanding theSpinning Wheel by Eric Corran. There are some 25 chapters in the book covering all the why's, where's & how's of making a SPINNING WHEEL INCLUDINING THE PLANS FOR BOTH VERTICAL AND UPRIGHT WHEELS. You & any of your collegues can view the book on Ebay in the crafts section under woodcrafts, spinning or books & magazines, or contact me direct on arcronet@yahoo.com.au | ||||
