View Full Version : Rejuvenated parting chisel

No idea where this chisel came from but it did not fit in my PVC tubes for my chisel rack.

It was old looking and flaking varnish on the handle so time to re-turn it to some of its original luster.

Well I must say with just eee after some sanding and a moment with the roughing gouge and she is a fine looking piece of timber and a nice feeling handle too

Ok fixed the blade up too

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/01/aru3e3ys.jpg

I did not intentionally take it out of the handle but it made things easier

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/01/epeme6a2.jpg

Sadly someone has ground both sides as well

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/01/7u6ahuza.jpg

But it all looks good back together

Nice one on the handle.

As long as there is no rust on the blade then you should be able to slice pretty well. :2tsup:

Ok this one is for you Evan.

And to think this all started because I wanted the handle to fit in the rack. This had now become my best looking chisel

I was afraid you'd read this thread. You know how bad the rest of my chisels are.

I'll try and do one a week. ;)

I'm shocked at the state of those chisels Dave. All of my turning chisels look brand new, like they've never been used. :~
:D OK, they are brand new, never used. I'll get a lathe going soon.
The gouge has come up very nice. :2tsup: What's next?

Bring them down here - I'll get them dirty, scratched, nicked and with rust on them - I reckon my shed has some sort of rust enhancing powers

Is this the shavings on the floor - how deep?

DaveTTC
15th April 2014, 09:09 PM
Yeah it is. I can't take credit for it all. I had some bagged, enough to fill a 44. The rest is mine. My cave is over a slab with three different levels and a couple of trenches where there was brick work. Deepest area is maybe 4 or 5". Ave is about 1". I have made enough of my own to cover the 6 x 2.8 m area in the last few months bit only a thin covering.

It is warm and user friendly. Knocked my iPad for a 6 and it just bounced. Have not chipped a dropped chisel yet.

Man, those ferrules are a mess on that rack.

What the heck is attached to the back of that lathe? A finger slicer?

There is so much stuff in that pic I dont know which bit you are referring to lol

Do you mean the fan where the housing on the motor broke?
