I chanced upon a 14" dia log the other day and didn't want to waste any of the size of it. Held my breath, stood aside and stared the lathe.... It OK, I'm still here to tell the story.

Your blog mentions something about "the moments we make", you have certainly made your moment there. Just finished turning a largish burl myself and know the feeling of what it is like to have something of that size wizzing around when you are not used to it. I suppose it will be a while before we get to see the finished product, but at least you are having the fun of turning green wood and making lots of spirals at the moment.

Ha ha, Treecycle, yes mindful of primary safety... Stand aside befor starting the lathe for first time with unbalanced piece... Definitely was a moment for me. Cheers Geoff.
