I don't do a lot of bowls, but I got a number of burls from Mark at 043turning when he had his wood sale just before Christmas. I'm not sure which burl this is, so those more knowledgeable may be able to help out here.
This one is approx 350 x 50mm deep. There was a large void in one side and originally I was going to leave the wall thick enough to keep the void. When I got down to that thickness it felt thick and heavy. I decided then to turn it thinner so that the void became a hole feature. So now it is more artistic rather than functional, but I like it better that way. Finished with DO.

Hi Treecycle,
Very nice indeed not everything has to be practical, and when something is as pleasing to the eye as this the need for practicality is even less important. (but I don't think an apple would fall through the hole)

A great piece of turning you have done the burr justice.:2tsup:
It would be a shame to put it on a coffee table as you know as soon as a empty bowl appears someone fills it (well in this house that is what happens)
