I have a new lathe, but need to construct a bench for it. Any suggestions to things to consider or where I may be able to get a set of plans for a bench.

Gooday.

Only 3 things to remember Sandy.

Strength, weight and usefulness.

Strength: It must strong enough to not "rack" forwards or sideways. This means making it wide enough not fall over.

Weight: Make it like a big box and fill it with sand or bags of sand or stack blocks of concrete or bricks in it.

Usefulness: I like my lathe benches wide so that I can place tools, material or othre bits and pieces on it.

There is a plan for a bench designed for the Nova 3000 at the following website. You may have to modify it to suit your lathe.

As per 's reply make sure you fill your stand with something heavy. I built a very solidly constructed stand and thought that would be sufficient. When I enclosed it and filled it with sand the difference was substantial. I can turn out of balance objects that I would not have attempted before and even on balanced objects the lathe just seems to run sweeter.
