I new it. I new it. I new it!!!! I been pondering on this for years and as usual, left it for some one else to do. Has anyone else seen this done. http://www.offgridquest.com/inspiration/handmade/884-logs-into-bowls

Yes. It is just getting a chunk of timber and using a bowl saver to rough out the bowl. The site leaves out the finishing bit, it goes from the bowl saver to a finishing coat, in between is shaping and sanding etc either whilst green or after drying.

Or are you talking about an automated version? Again the answer is yes, plenty of videos on U-tube.

Unfortunately our timbers don't always lend themselves to this process, although I have done a few with my bowl saver, just the thickness I cut is no where near the final size plus they often crack :(

I think I'll get a bowl saver some day, about the time I give up wood turning.
