Woman Cave

I am not really sure I should be here and if I'm not supposed to be here I suppose I will be ingloriously thrown out.

However, The WWW do seem to be a little hush hush of late so perhaps this will fire some of you up.

We all know what a man cave looks like: hell, the Forum even has it's own section dedicated to such places, but what does a woman cave look like? How about this one?

Not really intended for woodworking although a heap of wood went into it, it will be used for anything from sewing to lead lighting to screen printing. It also will mean that we can have the spare bedroom back :rolleyes: .

Oh, SWMBO did all the painting. She still has to paint the outside .

Now before you ladies get off your high horse I know we have a number of female woodturners/woodworkers who do have their own sheds and tools. Sue has her own room for weaving and spinning and much more.

Just moved and couldn't bring my shed with me but it went to a good home and that makes me happy.
My new shed which is a very old shed I have to share with HIM! So it's not quite a woman cave and not quite a man cave :q but I like it. And it's nice to fiddle together sometimes :;. It looks a mess but everything I need is in easy reach. I have my own corner which is enough for me, so I'm happy. :U

Busted! Ya got me! While I have my own woman cave, I certainly didn't build it all myself nor with all MY OWN tools. In fact it's in the midst of getting built. Today another window went in. It now has 3 windows,two of which are new. It's got a bed, a leather loveseat, a lazygirl, coffee table, end table, lamp corner table, a new woodstove, dehumidifier, dresser with big screen TV, draws with wheels for my bead and wire collections, 2 shelves for my painting supplies, painting easel, keyboard, amp, workbench with woodcarving tools, Dremel, bits, foredom, magnifying glass etc, tool peg board, light with fan.

Theres even a 9 x 6 space for a bathroom with "roughed in"plumbing but that's not going to be done until spring or so. I want a big claw foot bath tub, and nice vanity. So you are right! It hasn't fully happened yet.

I might consider showing pictures as the work progresses. Here is the window that got put in today.
Its a double slider with brick moulding, and J moulding that attaches to vinyl. It's exciting to put in brand new windows. Now at least I have a very bright woman cave which I greatly appreciate. The windows are quite large and sit fairly low so my room is bright and cheery.

I really like that name by the way as it has a pioneering independence ring to to it. I don't think you are busted at all. It looks to me like a very serious building in which you are developing a good deal of pride. The window is great and I completely understand how a small component can give so much pleasure. I once obsessed about some doors I made for a cubby house!

I also saw the illuminated magnifying glass, which admittedly you included on the inventory and wondered what is the main reason for the cave (apart from the escape aspects). It appears to have a large number of comforts: Almost a home away from home, but with the addition of tools: A sort of seventh heaven. Never did find out what the previous heavens were.

Haha. Thanks Paul. I rather like the name myself also. It does suite me some since I am certainly spirited. Not in that I drink because I don't. Lol. Plus I love wolves.

There is a lot of pride going into this. At the moment things are more disorganized than I'd generally like but it's a work in progress.
At the moment the floor isn't finished at all , but then neither are the walls, lol, but I'd very much like to get it done this fall. The wood-stove needs to be mounted up some from the floor and sank back about 8 to 10 inches. It only just got put in last fall and is my very first wood-stove ever and I absolutely love everything about it, even the chopping of the wood.
It can keep the entire house warm enough because it's got an automatic fan but it's also great for that wood stove smell and feel it gives the basement. With the dehumidifier going in the summer and the wood stove going in the winter, there's no more 'damp' basement.
So with this wood stove and two new windows, this place rocks down here.
The funny thing is that before I really hated this basement so it's a complete 180 on my part.


The magnifying glass is for my work. I make woman's hair accessories and need the magnifying glass to see my work properly.
This place is meant to be a place of serenity. There's been a huge change in my lifestyle lately and this IS my home within the home. I'd rather not get into the reasons for the change.
Another reason is that I've recently been diagnosed with cancer so I really need the retreat in order to mentally deal with it.


May I ask what a cubby house is?

It sounds as though your "retreat" is really as that word implies. I hope you find some peace and reflection time there and no doubt as the cave develops it will become even more tranquil. So sorry to hear of your illness. I don't wish to pry unduly, but I hope you are coping with the situation or at least as best you can.

Do let us know in this thread how the cave develops. A "cubby" house is a child's playhouse. It can be quite small or even the size of a garden shed.

I am coping with the situation very well thank you. I'm not afraid of the word cancer and refuse to treat it with conventional methods. None of those methods make sense to me. Why treat cancer with cancer causing agents? I don't buy into the 'myth' that there is no cure for cancer. Sure there is. It just depends who you talk to. Please don't feel sorry for me. :nonono:I walk my dogs at least once a day, usually twice. In the summer months I swim and ride my bike. I'm healthy and active. This is merely a wake up call letting me know that my lifestyle needs to change which is why I've moved to another part of the house. Moving out would have been too stressful on us both and not something I could financially do without selling the house and our house isn't ready to sell. Plus I've got two doggies to take care of and they mean the very world to me. Their happiness and well being is a top priority and they wouldn't want to move.
Nope! This is the start of a new chapter in my life and I will certainly keep you posted on the progress of my woman cave. For sure. In fact later I will add some more pictures and ask for some suggestions. I'd like to add a decorative indoor chimney to my wood stove and need some ideas for a built in closet.
In a years time when I get retested I 'WILL' be cancer free. :yippee:
