Visitors are gone and I had the shed to myself today. To celebrate I made this small lidded box from some very figured Queensland maple. Maple doesn't take a thread very well so I fitted some Burdekin plum into the lid and bottom for the hand chased threads. The box measures 60mm diameter x 55mm high. Finished to 1200# and Ubeaut Glow. The lid features a mother of pearl insert and some texturing.

I hope my forthcoming journey into Turning Boxes will get me somewhere close to your standard. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice one Jim. :2tsup: The whole box comes together really well with blend of two timbers, mother of pearl and the texturing.

Looking good Jim

Your visitor flew in last night, and flew out again early this morning, probably getting close to Gold Coast now :o

Great little box PP and a neat solution to the threading problem.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Nice one Jim, well done :2tsup:

Can you tell us where to get mother of pearl please? That is a beautiful touch to it.

Hi Dengue, I have a small supply of pearl shell and a circle cutter, so I make the discs myself. You will probably source the discs already cut via Google.
