I'm having a go at turning a bowl from Vic ash, and am having a bugger of a time. It's dry. And it just keeps splitting. Seems more than tear out. I put the bowl gouge down and have been using a scraper with a shear cut. Very lightly. Making progress, but still seems brittle....any tips? Anyone had any experience turning bowls with this wood? Thanks

I think my tip would be to forget about it, that's the nature of Vic Ash, it'll split, splinter and generally not behave itself. If you're very keen then make sure your tools are sharp and sharpened often. Try not to scrape but 'cut'.

Yes,if it's commercial it's probably fast grown plantation stuff, cut young and kiln dried. Not nice to turn.

Sounds like any other wood would be a better option than this. Lesson learnt. No more self inflicted punishment. Thanks to all.
