Hi,

I posted some piccies in the "welcome to the forum/introduce yourself" thread about my partners sport and a bow drawboard I made. I notice some other archers on here, and my partner and her son both have a traditional English Longbow made by a gentleman here in Adelaide. His workshop is a treasure trove of wood and tools. Her preferred bow though is a compound bow (bows with training wheels to some unkind souls :wink: ). This is the drawboard, made from an unused desk. I have also made an arrow cresting machine using a sewing machine motor, sadly no piccies. The drawboard was more thought than woodworking skill, but it was tricky getting everything parallel and square to enable accurate setup and alignment of the bow

Welcome to the forum. Not sure how this thing works, but looks well made and kinda busy. As you say, quite a bit of thought has gone into it.
Any chance of a short video on how it works?. Otherwise I'll have to do a bit of research!

Nice work.
Is that a giant vice type bow press in the first photos? Can you press older non parallel limbs? I think we need a few more photos. :)
Uncle Al, the last photo is a scale hooked up to the (lazy battery drill driven :D) winch to show draw weight at different draw lengths.
If you are real keen you can plot a draw weight curve and adjust your set up for optimal performance.

Al, I will try and get a video or take some sequential photos of it in use, also with the business end at the cams to show one of the tests we perform.. There are probably as many different drawboard designs as there are bows, you can buy them, but we found that while they did some things, we had to make one that did everything we wanted.

NC Archer, I guess you are into the sport? We imported the press from Last Chance Archery in USA when exchange rates were a bit kinder :C

We think it will do older non parallel limbs. My partner has a Hoyt PCE and her son has a Pro Edge Elite, but it works with a carbon matrix as well. She only measures Peak and Hold weight, but nock travel is what she is most interested in.

Thanks Paul. I haven't seen the Last Chance gear before. I notice they now have a draw board accessory for your press :)
Nock travel and cam timing didn't immediately spring to mind because I shoot recurve. You know, real archery :D

Yep, we are saving the pennies for that accessory, it looks very useful.

Hi, I used to be really into the archery, but my lymphoma put paid to that over 15 years ago.
I, loved the compound bows, started with a PSE then had a couple of Mathews single cams and finally a nice Hoyt Viper with a ridiculously low brace height of 5 1/2" gave you a nice smack on the wrist if you weren't careful.

The Mathews featherlight was the cheapest and lightest of all of them and got all my best scores with it.

Still miss doing archery but its way in the past now.
