Thanks for the response Baz, but I have searched and have managed to find nothing in the area, I was hoping that someone close to this area may be able top share some sources that I am unaware of.

Even though these are my first posts, I have been following these forums for quite some time and have picked up much valuable information.

Demonx ....
Not really a timber supplier but ....
There was a place out the back of Mt Clear (Bush) that made custom guitars .... their name was something like "Nioce" .... perhaps they can put you in the right direction. A recall going out there one day .... nice guitars but as they were custom made they were $$$'s and mainly for pros. I recall Red Simons used one when he was on Hey Hey its Saturday.

There was also some information posted last week about accoustic guitar kits for sale on line, timber included.

Thanks Sir S,

You are refering to Ian Noyce. I am familiar with him and through my dealings with him I found him to be rude and have chosen to have nothing to do with him ever since.

I do appreciate your pointing me in his direction. He does make high quality instruments, it's just a pity the person behind them is not of the same character as the instruments he makes!

Demonx,

Here's a link to Ray's typical stock list.

http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/supremewood/Rare%20&%20exotic%20timber%20samples/rare_and_exotic_timber_samples.htm

When you contact him, he'll ask you what you are after and sizes so he can check his stock before he'll price them for you so best to have this at hand and ask up front if time is an issue and you can't get down to see him.

I got a 1300mm x 100mm x 100mm length of Cocobolo off Ray about 6-7 years ago for a bass neck and that cost me at least $100 then. End up giving this piece to a close mate, Sydney luthier, Jeff Mallia http://www.mallia.com.au

With these (and any) types of timbers make sure you have more than adequate dust protection. I got pretty crook during my woodturning days back then and had to give it away for a year or two. Plus they can give you dermatitis if you have sensitive skin.

All the best with your guitar-making venture.

Cheers,
Ozzie

In reference to the comment about Ian Noyce, at his request, I should make it clear that this was based on one single phone call that happened approximately ten years ago.

Hi.

I am a musician of some 30 years and have decided that its time to have a go at building my own line of guitars (electric to begin). I have some fantastic old guitars that I love dearly, but the current range of instruments on offer, even from the major makers, leaves me a bit cold! I have been assembling guitars from componenets for years and often (to my mind!) come up with articles that are way ahead of what the major manufacturers put out for the price.

I know there a lot of people out there like me and I am very keen to exchange information, and be informed about wood types and techniques for both body and neck construction.

Yours truly,

wcw

Vaguely seem to recall that Koa is just good ole aussie red cedar.
The yanks grew some in hawaii and renamed it koa.
