why have my pinkeye potatoes ended up looking like Jerusalem artichokes, all nobbly. would it be a pest or something in the soil?

The best Pink Eyes need a sandy soil.
Perhaps look at your growing area. ?
Or are you using old seed stock. ?

Never tried growing pink eyes, I always go for dutch cream plus one other type, kipfler this year.
I do get a bit of scale on some of my spuds but nothing like those deformed beasts!

They were new seed stock, the sand seems like an interesting idea. I've heard that people use a sand/soil mix when growing carrots. I've grown pinkeyes before without any problems on our property, but not in the spot used this time. I grew a variety of spuds in the same area without any problems this season, so maybe it was infected stock.
