Multi axis honey dipper

Like many i dont get near the time i wish in the cave. I do go to my wood turning club one evening a week.

This months club challenge is a honey dipper. Not really much of a challenge unless you use their equipment lol

To spice things up a bit i decided to 4 turning centre's. First step to rough it round

Next was mark out 3 other off centre turning axis, one end

Now it was time to turn some air

I was going for a handle with a twist. As i have not done any experimenting with offsets and the like it was just a case of it will be what it will be.

The handle twist was hard to make out but once finished and in the right light it could be seen

That was my aim. A honey dipper is not particularly exciting so wanted to do something a little different

I did some multi axis turning for a couple of aeroplane bodies some years back. Lots of fun but you have to THINK.:)

I like your idea of the offsets at both ends to give the twist; I wonder how a tool handle done similarly would feel in the hand? Hmmm... :think:

It actually feels good. I was thinking of a mallet but even a chisel. It may give a more positive feel in the hand

Dave nice work. One tip if you are going to keep playing with multi axis work - ditch the standard 4 prong centers and use steb style centers. The steb centers give you a more positive hold with less problems but they also have the issue of the spring loaded point. The force in the spring can be a bit much for more delicate work.

Thanks Moby. This one i did at the club as my Cave is not set up yet. Sadly rich as the club is they are lacking good chisels and accessories.

I will definitely try the steb at home. I have a cheap drive which is not a true steb but kinda close. As my situation improves i wilk get sone better quality bits n bobs
