I have been sorting through a few photos and came across the following series of a few years back that I thought I would share. The idea was to create "stained glass butterflies" The idea was good but a few things went astray along the way.
It was one of my experiments with resin casting that didn't quite work.:((
The main reason being that i did not go deep enough with the piercing and then the number of times that it was removed and the remounted in the chuck.

I will let the photos tell the story.....comments welcome.

How you tried this again at any stage after this attempt?

I like the concept of embedding resin(or epoxy) in a piece. I have done this in natural cracks but never a purpose created design.

Have not gone back to a specific engraved/pierced design other than the cracks and drilled holes posted under "out of the fire".
At some stage in the future I still plan to further develop the "stained glass" effect.

Kcam,

Next time, maybe not quite so thin and several wraps of masking tape around the outside when you do the hollowing.

Great idea and beautiful piece, sorry you lost it.

A technique well worth a follow up shame about the mishap.
