View Full Version : Another lidded box

A small lidded box with a hand threaded lid. This one is made from a piece of purple gidgee and measures 65mm x 45mm diameter. The design is based on Ali Avisera's concept but the blank was cut with a circular saw instead of a router. It is made from black bean with black bean inserts and silver ash feature lines. The insert on the lid is a "tunbridge" style motif.

Another top job from a very talented turner. Lovely finish on a fairly unusual timber.

Hi Smiife, black bean is a very open grained timber and doesn't take
a thread very well. I cut the threads on a bit of ebony and fitted that to the box during the turning process.

HI JIm, absolutely lovely work. I really enjoy seeing all the different pieces you do, just fascinating. I am over in Lake Eacham and was wondering if you might teach these skills by chance. Really keen on finding some mentors in the timber arts from the tablelands.
