Hi All.

Here's my dilemma: I have some larger straight shank tools e.g. drills larger that 1/2", reamers larger than 1/2", all with a shank larger than a 1/2" Jacobs chuck will take. I'm using a woodlathe with a MT2 tailstock taper.

I was thinking mounting a chuck to the tailstock and using appropriate jaws to hold the oversized tools. My question is, do you know of the best way to go about this, suitable jaws, etc.

I was thinking pin jaws possibly on a Vicmarc chuck. The alternative is a metal 3 or 4 jaw scroll chuck. I'm really after something safe and accurate but not too crazy in price.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you do a search you can find 16MM chucks in MT2 quite cheap. Will that be easier and safer for you?

Just Have The Drill Shanks Turned Down..

Well the Scottish man is correct again.
As Robby mentioned Just Have The Shanks Turned Down to suit your Jacob chuck no big deal.
