I picked up some Ash at a steam rally from a man who was demonstrating a engine driven saw, see very short video of it being cut

https://youtu.be/hk_DJg1o-hY (https://youtu.be/hk_DJg1o-hY)

I cut it into blanks and stored it. I did take a couple of pieces out after 6 months and hid it in the top of the airing cupboard for 6 weeks(don't tell the wife)

This bowl is one of the bits I was pleased at the grain I found inside as it did not show anything promising before turning.

Measures 8 3/4" X 1 3/4"

I have just been having a play with the camera set up and hope these show the finish a bit better.

Thank you Keith. The guys in the video get use to me hanging around as they cut the wood so I can get the best pickings of what looks best for my turning work

I like the profile on the bowl.

I chose this profile as I find it can slightly lighten the look of a bowl with a wide rim

Beautifully done Dalboy!!! :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Sometime relatively plain timbers have surprising grain patterns when turned, as you have shown here.

I was a bit stunned by the video. Safety did not seem to be a big consideration.:no:

The piece falling off the table and onto the driving belt sent a shiver down my spine!!:o

Thank you.

And yes I am surprised that they did not have to use any form of guard either for themselves or the belt, having said that the belt would just come off if the wood did trap as it is quite loose
