richard raffan demo/workshop

Hi guys,
I just wanted to mention what a fantastic weekend it was at
the Richard Raffan demo/workshop in East Maitland and at
Paul Brinkleys place, the demo on saturday was very interesting
and well attended, very well organized and i would like to thank
all the people involved in setting up and organizing the whole event
I can, t remember all there names but the ones i did meet were friendly
and helpful , a great bunch of woodies,also the wives that put on a
great lunch!:2tsup:,,,,, very yummy it was too!

On saturday at Paul, s place was the hands on workshop
with Richard Raffan, what a good teacher Richard is , he
showed us how turn several items , and then came around to each
of us to explain even further and to make sure we understood .
Paul has a great workshop set up and had work very hard to make
sure every thing set up and that we all had a good time , he was a
fantastic host , also his wife margaret did a lot of work behind the
scenes ,,many thanks to both of them!:2tsup:
A big thank you to Richard , I for one had a great weekend:2tsup:

The bloke in the (new) hat has been referred to prevoiusly as 'the young shaver' for some reason.:D
That's a pretty impressive looking workshop that Woodnut has up there, glad everyone had a good time.

Saturdays talk and demonstration was good and extremely well attended .
The Monday "hands on" was even better and being a week day I was 1 of 6 students who pulled a sickie from work to attend.
Thank you Richard for all your help and advice, Margaret for the catering oh, and you to Paul for organising.

I had to work on weekend, so missed the saturday session in mainland, but got to the monday hands on. Was a fantastic opportunity and a great day. I'd do it again without hesitation. And the echo everyone else's sentiment, thanks again to Paul and family for hosting etc. Just a great day.

I attended all 3 days and then club night on Monday night, "when too much wood turning is barely enough!".

The workshops where a real eye opener and I actually learned how to put those small beads on the outside of bowls and even made my first lidded box. Richard is an excellent teacher and coach and as previously indicated the facilities and hospitality at Paul's place were excellent.

Monday certainly was a great day- thank you Paul, Margaret and Richard. Only problem is that its going to cost me a fortune. I now have some tools sharpened by THE Richard Raffan, so obviously cant use them or take them anywhere near my grinding wheel and will have to buy new ones

Have a look at Richards web site , he has 3 dvd , s on there
for sale , not sure If there are any of the demos he does but
like you say they would be worth a look!:U

I will be able to repeat the same grind either
but i will have a go ,,,, fingers crossed!:o

LoL, Richard sharpened several of my chisels at a workshop a while back. The difference it made to my turning was unbelievable. Problem is I've now lost the shape due to my less than professional sharpening skills. Wish I'd kept them as reference pieces!!
