Hi guys.,
I was having fun turning some very wet chinese poplar
Making lots of streamers , blank between centres , all going
well , rounded the blank off , just about to put a tenon on each end......
I noticed a small crack the length of the blank,,,, oh yeah
that will turn away when i start to shape it......:o:o:o
Then bang , smash , and bang again.......the blank had split
in two , hit the lathe bed , smash my light , and then hit the
ceiling with quite a force , and then bounced back to the ground
next to me ,!!! Oh well put that one down to experiance , both pieces
tossed on the firewood pile,,,,,
It just shows how quickly things can go very wrong ,!
Take care fellow woodturners,

Well thats a shame, it is a nice peice of wood.
As an aside, I always felt like a professional turner when I turn wet timber, big shavings, no catches, quick work
Sincerely
Willy

Bugger!
Well, you now can access above the ceiling to add ventilation.

Amazing how quickly things happen when the gremlins get out. One second you have a nice piece of wood, a smooth ceiling, good lighting and clean undies. Next second all four items have had a change of state.
Anyway, no-one hurt, and you can still use the timber for pen blanks!
A stiff drink to settle the nerves, and get back into it (tomorrow).
