The eternal problem of cleaning up was interrupted again. A block of maple came to light, it showed a few cracks and some other "faults", that decreed a cremation process. A closer examination showed maybe it has some potential. After an hour on bandsaw and lathe it showed up some nice grain. Any way after a lot of careful shear scraping the cranky grain started to really pop, especially after a coat of sanding sealer. Sanding up to 1200# after several coats of sprayed lacquer it finished up ok for a piece of wood headed for the fire?. It measures 310 x 65mm.

I think it should be called Phoenix as it has been rescued from the flames. A great bowl and some fantastic grain.
