Saw these over at Timbecon, and I was wondering exactly WHAT do they produce?

chinese balls

There's a joke in there somewhere, concerning Wongo and eunuchs, I'm just not sure where. :D

Google for the book "Woodturning Wizardry" by Dave Springett.
eg: http://www.thegmcgroup.com/item--Woodturning-Wizardry-New-Revised-Edition--GM-WOOD-6.html

These tools are to turn items within items. Eg: spiked spheres within hollow balls, or cubes inside balls.

See here for examples by someone with far more skill and patience than I -

These are tools to do "balls within balls" mostly known under the name of "Chinese bowls". Here is one I exhibited in France.

You see our balls are a lot more complicated than yours.

Ah yes of course Wongo, I see now. With over a billion Chinese in China alone, the opportunity for complication is enormous. By the judicious use of thses tools, I can see how it would simplify things.

What's that old saying - I see it but I don't believe it. Or at least, I'm stuffed if I know how you do it. I'll have to read some more books. I've seen these before but had assumed it was like bandsaw boxes - ie cut and glue back together.

Well done La Truciolara, I'm very impressed.

How many balls are there????There are 3 concentric balls, 6 interlaced and a cross in the centre. I have been asked which wood… but I don’t remember. I think it is walnut but won’t bet on it.
As I am not sure I explained myself well with “interlaced” and “cross” here is a picture which will probably mean more than my explanation.
I do apologise for the dimension of the pic in my previous thread, I did not intend to over do it, but the original was huge and I did not diminish it’s size. Sorry :o <O:p

No, there are only turned using the funny tools of the first thread or tools that you make yourself.
In France there is another woodturner who does marvellous things. You should see his site<O:p: http://www.christiandelhon.com/<O:p</O:p
