Maple lamp

Just finished a maple lamp base, have too many blanks laying around and need to get through some of it.

How is the power done, through the base, or via the outside?

Thanks! I drilled through and through top and bottom then added a hole at the back through a knot hole. Then run a tracer wire up the knot hole to the top, taped the main power wire to the tracer and pulled through.

This will probably start an argument on here.
The knot in Cals lamp being so low, was probably a good move, particularly if it fell out.
Some people like knots and others don't, I personally like them as they give life to the turning, well my thoughts anyway.
How do other members on here feel about knots on turnings?

They are part and parcel of what we are cutting, so generally speaking, knot an issue. :D

That said, they can sometimes be a bit iffy when one lets loose on a 80mm diameter surface travelling at 8m a second.

I have brought bowls with holes into the house, the missus doesn't say much, just smiles and says, "another nice one dear". Her friends do get a bit more voluble in their assessment though.

Kryn, I have a heap of Silky Oak that I cut up last weekend, you are welcome to come over and grab some. There are about 20 half rounds 300mm square and 130mm deep. Ends are painted, some are starting to check a little.

I'm knot one of those who do knot like nots. In fact I canknot understand why people do knot like nots? They are a nice feature and liven up a blank that would otherwise be knot so interesting, so you think knot?

I like the shape of the lamp and I , like you, think that maple is a lovely wood to turn. Nice job mate! Knot bad !! :2tsup::2tsup:
