Small Oak Vase.
I picked this piece of Oak up and started to turn it for another project that is going to be decorated all over, but when I rough turned it to allow it to do any moving before making the piece in question I discovered that the grain although quite straight was to good to cover up.
Anyway the dicision was made to turn it wet. Finished with Lemon oil and buffed on the Chestnut buffing system.
I now like the texture now that it has time to dry a little.
I am starting to enjoy wet wood turning and seeing what it will do as it dries

very nice.

Have you ever wet turned a bowl and then bent out of whack to give a different off-turned shape? i'm hoping to try this soon.

Not yet but I now have in excess of 120 green blanks to have a play with. Normally I will rough turn them and leave them to warp and dry before remounting and turning to final shape and thickness

Thank you Keith and Peter. Woodwork has stopped for a couple of days my wood store has now developed a leak due to branches over hanging it and the leaves have built up so sorted that yesterday and today is sorting out the inside to help it dry quicker.

Very pleasant looking vase.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Interesting the way the medullary rays have formed concentric elliptical patterns.

Of course Irish woodturner Liam Flynn, now deceased, was the doyen of green oak turning. Your piece is nice but he set the benchmark that others may never achieve.

I don't think Dalboy's oak piece above would be embarassed to stand with a group of Liam's.
