Some time back I scored a bit of old red cedar. Surprisingly it is still firm, not carroty like old cedar can be. It is a nice dark colour and I have been waiting for a deserving project to use it on. I had wanted to make a traditional gate leg table for a long time but never had the right timber, until now. Below is a photo of the frame, I am waiting for some brass hinges designed for drop leaves. The table top will have a traditional rule joint. The hinges are not cheap, two pairs cost me $129.00, but it would have been a shame not to go the whole hog.
