View Full Version : WIP - A new Forum ?

OK, it's time to pressure our masters. :D

It seems an idea has grown legs and we need to see if it can run.

Would you like a Forum dedicated to WIP (work in progress) pictures etc, or are you happy to leave them in the current Woodwork Pics Forum?

It seems the WIP posts have become very popular and the responses indicate a lot of interest. If they were in their own section, I'm thinking they'd be easier to access and keep a track of.

I think they are a great learning tool for most members of this board.

A simple YES or NO will suffice.

Thanks.

Great Idea -- but folk should still put final product on the main pic forum. The WIP ones appearing lately are fantastic -- I learn so much from them ... going to post WIP on my next project.

I think the idea had merit....

But I think it would also detract from other sections that have WIP threads ...............Make em do a search !!!!!

Personally I love the present layout of our forum

I'm with Lou.

It seems to be accepted etiquette to include WIP as part of the thread title, so what's wrong with doing a search?

That way each thread stays in the forum it's appropriate to, WOODWORK PICS is just the most popular venue at the moment. [shrug]

Jest hold yer horses plastercine man.
I've been thinking.........stop laughing.

Whilst the idea has merit, I wonder if a newcomer may find all the forums available a bit daunting. Imagine this, your'e after some help, Google brings you here, a poke around and you find the home page. HOLY spoilt for choice BAtman, where do I go.

I think this is how so many newbies post aquestion in the Woodturning Forum, its at the top of the list, well sorta. Will yet another fourm add to the confusion?

theres a lot to be said for works in progress, not just to say oohhh and aaahhh, but rather it generates questions and discussion too. however WIP in the title is a good idea.

not a bad one plastecine one.

We could dump something in favour of it but i don't think another one will make any difference. It could be under the Pics heading as a sub forum.

You Taswegians stick together don't you. :D

I'm waitng for a reply from with his thoughts. I did have a scroll through and I'm sure a WIP forum would be more active than several on here at the moment. But that's really their decision. I'm just flying the kite to see what you others think.

So far the results indicate that 29 people have voted with intelligence, foresight and wisdom, while the other 6 haven't. :D :D

I would like to see a new forum which discusses the possibility of new forums. Maybe call it neo-forums, or forums-nouveau (the hidden art of creating forums).

Just keep on thinking .

I can still remember the time that on the main page you could see who was on line, today's birthdays and new members without having to scroll down over some screens. But then life was simple then without those weird forums. :D

Does any one use these additional forums for looking for new posts? Doesn't everybody use the new posts button or do they only look in certain forums?

Besides it only gives the "complain about posting in wrong forum nazies" another avenue of complaining. For that, and more, I voted for the noes.

Close enough but they do it in stages. First a start is made and then a break for a while and restarted again, a further break and restart etc.

I like to get it all done in one session, sort of intensifies the fun and pleasure. :D

So the WIP section could have;
A boat under construction
some half finished intarsia.
part of a cupboard
a lump of wood half turned
a half sharpened plane
something painted yellow
someones part built shed

:D :D :D :D :D
I vote NO

Yep. The problem that I and Neil have is what some have mentioned here that the board is getting a bit large with forums and subsections.

At the moment I think that if you have Work in Progress that the best place to post it (as it nearly always has pics) is in Woodwork Pics.

Still thinking. :D
