I was going through and cleaning up my dads workshop and I found a brochure on great looking lathe. I went and searched google but with no luck. I have a wood lathe thanks to (AIS,BHP,Bluescope) dad had friends in high places, the only problem it cannot turn large diameter pieces.
This brochure showed copy attachment and turning up to 400mm
Does anyone have ideas on a good lathe that can copy and is around the $2,000.00 or am I dreaming.

I haven't seen anything that cheap but there are options. Check out something like this: http://www.minimax-usa.com/lathes.html and look for the T124. Other options is get a large lathe and something like a Vega duplicator.

For large diameter turnings, there are units like Record, General, Powermatic and many others that can handle 24" or better turnings. Some have bed extensions available while others don't.

Ok then. Agood copy lathe that requires the minimum amount of sanding after "turning" (and I use the term loosely) will set you back about $20,000.

Cheap copiers that use a scraping cut are not worth a cracker.

You would spend the money better on getting lessons on how to copy.
