Hey all, this is really my first time working with any kind of wood(well since my 8th grade year)and Im not sure what to finish it with, or sand with for that matter. I am makeing a jewlery box out of mahogany for the bottom and sides, but on the top it will be maple(birds eye or curly). I was just wondering what I would use to finish it, sand grit? Waxes? Dyes?? What works/doesnt work? I want something that will bring out the lines and shine it up a bit on the maple. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Depending of the finish you got with your chisels, you should in any case sand it starting at grit 80 , then 120, 180, 240, 320, 400… up to the point where the natural finish (without auny kind of wax) is satisfactory. Then, depending whether you like it shiny or not, you have a wide choice of wax, varnishes, and oils.
