Being a newbie, whats the easy way to make a door wedge with a turned knob on the end. And how do you finish it off without the spindle hole showing

Do them double ended and then slice the wedge and you end up with 2.

Termite,

there you go again!

If that wasn't a lathe-related post, then I don't know what is:D

To the tune of the schoolground nyah-nyah-ne-nyah-nyah

"Termite needs a la-athe,
Termite needs a la-athe,
..."

(Henceforth shortened to TNAL)

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Rone
I prepare the timber first that is split/rip 90x45 radiata down the middle giving you two pieces roughly 45x42ish about 300 long.this is sanded including rounding of the thin edge. I have a jig to cut the splay leaving about 60mm full square both ends. Now I take a piece of rhs 45x45 about 50 mm long and wedge both pieces into it giving me a square piece, mount between centres and turn your knob on each end leaving about 10 mm waste these waste pieces are cut off and you have two wedges ready for what ever finish you care to use . I hope this makes sense to you.

Cheers Tony

For the non lathe types
Make your wedge
Glue round wooden drawer knob on the big end

Gives you absolutely no personal satisfaction in the finished product but it works :D

So Rone needs to have access to a bandsaw? Or a good saw hand?

Without a saw, you glue together two pieces of wood separated by a paper sheet. You mount them on the lathe in a diagonal, turn them simply and split them when you are satisfied with the shape.
