Hello all,
I am currently a student of Woodworking in Ottawa, Canada, and would like to do my apprenticeship in Australia.

If anyone has information that could help me out, I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you,
Smiles

First of all - Whats wrong with Canadian woodworkers? Arn't they good enough for you to learn from? http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif

First site I will recommend you visit before anything else is the Australian Immigration website. Search it and it should give you any information etc someone like yourself should need to know.
Australian Immigration (http://www.immi.gov.au/)

Then go to this site and follow the links for the various states to get to each states web site and then you should be able to find information on Apprenticeships in each state. I know the Queensland web site has quite a bit of info there on Apprenticeships.
Australian Federal, State & Territory Governments (http://www.gov.au)

Then lastly this site which is a good place to find current job availability in Australia. Quite a lot of apprenticeships are advertised there so its a good place to see whats available & where.
Australian Job Search (http://jobsearch.dewrsb.gov.au/)

I should tell you though as an employer of apprentice's I wouldn't consider someone from oversea's. Most likly not even if they could prove without a doubt they were commited to the 4yr term. The idea of employing apprentice's is so there won't be a shortage of tradesman in the future. So putting on local young people in an apprenticeship is the norm. The idea being when they qualify they will stay local and continue in there trade. It dosn't always work that way, but thats the idea.

Australia is currently in a situation where we are beginning to run short on tradesman. Especially in the mining industry. So there is a big push here in QLD for employers to put on more apprentice's. Rather big $incentives for employer's too.

Anyway, hope this help you somewhat!

Cheers!
