I used to turn patterns on a lathe like that one over 50 years ago. Wasn't quite as modern as that one. We used to use cross arms screwed to 600mm dia steel face plate with the pattern fixed to the cross arms which was a spigot or socket ends for concrete pipes up to 8 to 9 feet in dia.

i always need a holiday :D But with all this terrorism stuff going on and getting my baggage X-rayed etc. It might be a challenge getting it past them.....:)

Gilmartins in Bendigo had a number of lathes like that. Had 3 of the headstocks for sale as bowl lathes at our Swap Meet about 8 years ago all would turn about 8 ft diam. Think they were around $300 each.... Couldn't sell em.

interesting, i would have thought at that price, they would sell.:confused:
