I would like to here from any Sherwood MSL-3815 owners about the performance( or non-performance) of their lathes.

not the sherwood Russ but I have come across another 2 reports of the same problem I had with the main spindle in 2 MSL-3815's of 2 different shades of blue.

My MSL is now returned after being told that there is no fix (I take it the replacement parts are also faulty or not available) I was also told that every other msl in stock had the same problem.

I obviously cant be sure but I highly doubt the sherwood will be any different.

the 8 or so reports of bad vibration in these lathes date right back, so even the "bad batch" syndrome is iffy.

I had a bit of a pang today after seeing the lathe at 2 different outlets and knowing that each one would soon make somebody very frustrated.

my advise is to steer clear of them unless you have seen the machine you are purchasing run at full revs without the vibration.

apart from the vibration the lathe was good.. solid bed if not a sawdust trap, decent power and nicely placed controls.

small downside was that the headstock needed adjustment all the time.. the bolt to turn it outboard was awfully undersized and badly positioned up under the bed beside the sharp casting edges (knuckles) and the ball bearing on a spring that looked like a positive lock for inboard failed to to do anything at all.

the tail stock shaft had a little movement when not locked making drilling with a drill chuck in the tail stock sloppy to say the least but when locked it centered itself up fine for spindle turning.

thats about it mate.. hope I'm not flogging a dead cat :)
