Hi. I'm fairly new to woodturning,I was wondering are there any problems with turning red,yellow or white box. If not is it better to turn it wet(green) or dry? Are there problems with cracking?

Have turned both red and yellow box mostly old fenceposts and extremely dry. They both have magnificent grain and turn very well dry.

Don't know about turning green but wouldn't be surprised to see it them crack up. Think you may find that green, the smell may be a bit overpowering but the easiest way to find out is to have a go. What have you got to lose but a little bit of time.

You obviously have a source if the wood that isn't going to cost so go for it. Even if the timber don't work well green or it is inclined to splitting, use it as a learning exercise to practice your cutting techniques, etc.
