ahh cool link woodbutcher, i did a ocuple for a mate last year, for trout fishing in Tassie, says they work fine, Huon Pine and Bunya pine i think were the woods.

Never thought of wood as I have always used old cartridge casings, however, I have made a few priests using huon pine for the handle and lignum vitae for the head ( or solid timber with lead inserted into a hollow head).
For those who are not fly fishers, a priest is a little club that fits in the pocket for administering 'last rites' to the trout (for WB1 that is Troot:D )

Good old trout fishing...
Me and my father have had a few average days up on the lakes.. but it is great fun when you are catching something....!!
mmmmm... we dont tie our own flies but these tools would make great pressies for some of dads mates...
