Router Choice

Just a quick one before I go to the Christmas sales, I am thinking of making a dedicated router table for the Gifkin jig (which I don't have yet) and I was considering buying two, God forbid, Ozito or GMC routers for the purpose which are currently selling for about $70.00 each.
I realise that they are not brilliant but once set up this will save the fine adjusting that goes with this jig.
I have two 'decent' routers, a Makita and a HItachi but I hate fiddling around and want a permanent fixture.
Would this be a viable alternative given the little use it will get??
I don't want to spend a fortune and I see this as a time saving exercise.

Hi Iain,

You'll still need to adjust your plung up and down. Just make sure the plung mechanism is easy to use. The more expensive routers have a micro adjuster which you WILL need for the Gifkin jig.
As the adjustments in height are made for the thickness of the materials used.

You might be able to remove the springs from the plunger to make it easier to handle under the table.

Otherwise as someone has mentioned here before you could use bundgy cords to counteract the tention on the springs.

You'll need easy access to the router while its mounted in the table.
And don't forget the bit changing procedures and room to access the collette.

Perhaps you might be able to incorporate a vaccuum into the design as well.

And I'll remind you of the sound of the motor.
