I picked up some turning blocks from Australia and wuz wondering if you could provide me with any info on any of these woods (timbers). http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif
1:Musk burl-Olearia agrophylla
2:Rose Myrtle burl-Nothofagus Cunninghamii
3: "Bud" burl- Eucalyptus?
4:Banksia,(timber not seed pod)

Excessive warping,cracking,poison,that sort of stuff. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

The myrtle is a lovely timber that keeps its pink/brown colour after finishing. The timber is prone to warping a bit if you get it too hot while finishing, but the burl should be OK in this respect.

The banksia is also good for turning with some fine iridescence if you're lucky.

Thanks Ern,I roughed out the Myrtle a few days ago,waxed& bagged it,can't wait to finish it. It is beautiful wood!
Would you finish with lacquer,to preserve the colors?
Haven't started the others yet.

My supplier just uses sanding sealer and paste wax to finish, though I prefer to oil and then wax.
