i have recently perchased a heligring jig for sharpening my chizzels

for gouges--it travels up and down as you swivel it (it's on a cam) the way they teach you in the tafes (the reel way)

for skews---it has an attachment that keeps it at the right angle.

and it also converts into a normal rest so you can sharpen any othe tool

since i have pechased it my production has tripled and sharpening time has halved. sharp tools are a dream to use!!

this is the best jig ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought one years ago at one of the WWW shows. Worked a treat, although I was a bit dissappointed in the fact that nearly all my larger chissels still needed to be sharped on the table.

I lost the instructions in my fire a few years back, the primary components survived though. I'm now setting it up using my variable speed grinding set-up (based on this (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?t=35324&page=5) thread) on my lathe (I'll post a pic when finished). Can you advise what the offset is from the wheel to the anchor?

I have to admit I do not use a jig for sharpening. But all the same I was taken by the design of this one and if I ever have to buy it would most likely be this one.

One of my turning teachers was a fan. Reckoned it was the only jig that did a real helical grind.

Haven't the faintest what that means - I bombed at maths at school so did humanities ;-}
