I have been offered a Stanley/Bailey No 5 plane in good nik for $40.
Is that a reasonable price?

I bought a Stanley Bailey No 5 jack plane for $50 about 18 months ago. It was a bit scruffy and I reckon maybe 30/40 years old. I cleaned it up and tuned it. It works a treat and I reckon it feels and cuts better than a couple of brand new Stanleys(Nos 4 & 6) that I've bought since. Even if the one you've been offered is in less than good nick it's probably well worth $40.
