It's not a dedicated handle lathe is it? They're not really much use for anything else.

A quick search found this (http://www.woodweb.com/exchanges/machinery/posts/412661.html) one to show what I'm thinking of. I think it says US$9600 or thereabouts?

is it one of those with the toroidal cutters and uses a template that is smaller than the finished product?

there are 3 cutters on each head, they look like the bottom of valves in an engine, the size of the template does not matter you can make it biger or smaller.the brand is BREVETTATA.

I used one very much like this during my appreniceship, used to make the patterns for it ( thats how I became interested in woodturning) good for machining table legs etc, a friend of mine who has factory in port Augusta bought one 2 years ago for $3.800.00 it was in need of some TLC

the brand is BREVETTATA.

Don't think so. Brevettata means patented. Can you photograph - copy the markings?

Sorry,DJ, that is a common mistake: "marca brevettata" means "registered trademark":

ABC marca brevettata = ABC (TM).

This is the reason why I asked what else is written there.:)
Cheers

If you Google brevettata, you'll think that "they" made almost everything in Europe. Frank is exactly right.
