I brought so eucalyptus burl back to USA when I went to OZ last May. It is very beatiful and very hard to get here. My question is when my partner and I turn a bowl out of 1 of the pieces after o couple of weeks it is now foot ball shaped what can we do to prevent this from happening on other pieces ? If it was streight grained I would try drying it in a kiln/ oven.

dry it slowly and make up some sort of clamping jig so that it cant deform ? (sorta like chocolate between sponge cake slabs except the sponge is rigid wood/metal sheet held together by clamps)
Maybe you can save your football shaped bowl by re soaking it in a bucket for a week then appying the cake method ???
Im just guessing here but looks like your bowl/football is up creek anyway so there is nothing to lose is there ? :-)
