Hi
a few years ago when I did a TAFE course we bought our metal hardware for turning tools from www.mcjing.com.au, then turned our handles. Our lecturer organised it and I have been more than happy with the quality. I'm sure someone here can verify one way or another whether this is still a good way to go.

Dave Drescher at SE QLd woodworking supplies at slacks creek is probably the cheapest but as thye just onsell name brands its hard ot get em cheaper. P&N the aussie chisels are good value.

Bob, with great difficulty especially if your trying it on HSS rounds. Most grinding of HSS is to sharpen not to form

Actually I dont know of any one who could, for me I use/buy round Silver steel its available form any good engineering store ie Blackwoods, A E Bakers etc.
When you buy it its soft so you can work it ok. The hardening and tempering can be done with a blow torch and a bucket of water.

It will not hold an edge Like HSS, but a finishing tool the edge will finer and shaper than HSS. It will also work well on roughing out with green timber

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the forum.

Do a search for 'unhandled tool sale'. You'll find some discounted tools here in OZ.
