Went shopping at the Adelaide WWWshow, now the proud owner of Nova DRVXP with an extra extension bed an outrigger.
The stand I knocked up from recycled materials, the pipe work is 1/4" thickwall 2" irrigation pipe which is plated in 3mm steel, the top is a 8" wide 1/2" thick C section(reckon it will ever break). All up I guess its about 100~120kgs as I can only just lift it enough to move it... lucky for the engine crane
Its painted in white acrylic tinter(car paint), it cost more for the paint than for the whole stand including the bolts!

Some bits to go with the SN2 chuck, grabbed some extra sets of jaws 100mm, 75mm long nose, 25mm pin set(still on way), mini nova cole set + the standard 50mm jaws.

Chisels, I was unsure on what to get so I asked a few questions on the Nova forums, ended up following a list our made out after chatting with the Big Kahuna(Neil) and Jim Carroll at the show.
I wanted to get all P&N, but Jim didnt bring any, but he reckoned the Woodcut are just as good.
So grabbed a 10mm bowl and a 13mm spindle gouge from him, also got a Woodcut jig and a white wheel from him.
The other chisels are some of the range that Col Rayner is stocking at Northwoods, they are cheapys but thats ok because they can be my learner set once Im more experienced I'll order the P&Ns from Jim.

My 1st attempt, its about 7"dia would have been 1 1/2" deep but it went flying across the shop when I tried using the 3/8" bowl gouge. It broke the rim and chewed of half of the spigot... I couldnt rechuck it with the SN2 so I had to remount it on the face plate note the screw holes!
Tell ya what Ubeauts moto(it works)is true, the EEE and shellawax are good stuff.

Oooer! That's a bad choice of gear for a new turner. Now you've lost all chances of blaming bad equipment for future failures. Well... most, anyway! :U

It's a very nice starter kit you've assembled there, you've obviously done your homework. Would I be right in guessing those turning blanks are from the Woodsmith?

Betcha have a smile from ear to ear. :thyel:

Thanks guys.
Skew, nope the turning blanks were from the mob at the Adel WWWshow, its Bradsburls or Mullumbimbys? or something, didnt really take notice... Was itching to get home left the show at 4pm then went to MIK's shop for the pick up... getting home and unpacking the ute the assembling all the parts I was turning by 2am!(I live 220km from the show)

Oh and a big thanks to Stu in Tokyo and Manuka-Jock for measuring their lathes for me so I could make the stand before getting the lathe!

No mucking about there Harry - divin' in boots and all that's for sure. Good gear like that should make the journey enjoyable from the start - even if you've already sent one across the shed!:;

Boy Harry, when you jump in with both feet you put your bloody boots on first don' t you :D :2tsup:

Brilliant starter kit for sure!

A really agree on the cheap chisels to begin, it does take a bit of time and steel to get the whole sharpening thing down pat. I ate up most of my first 1/2" P&N Bowl gouge that way, bloody crime really

All looks great! :2tsup:

Harry, did you have enough money left to fill up the ute to get back to Pirie?

That is one impressive haul, congrats, sorry I missed you at the show.

Good first attempt at bowl turning too, very impressive.

I tried to buy a Nova G3 chuck from Jim Carroll but he didn't bring those either, nor some clock movements I was after.

"So you are now the "father of all turners" "
Ummm yeah was meant to be fraternity :D

BigShed, only just... managed also to grab some HungryJacks too.(dont have it here)

Scooter, the guard cant fit, the jig base hits it by about 5mm might have to cut the bottom of the guard...
Im going to remake the base plate and put a 40mm white wheel(mod the guard) on the other side including a decent angling rest, for all the non gouge tools.

Started making some handles for some hand files tonight... need them pin jaws!

Harry, what do you need the pin jaws for? :?

I was wondering this, but I did not want to high-jack your thread, so I posted up how I make handles on my lathe......

Harry72 congratulations on your new lathe and turning tools, quality gear will give you a head start.

Re: your grinder. You may have to raise the grinder on the base with a larger spacer. Check your True Grind instructions for set up info (you should not need to modify the guard). If you don't have instructions, go to the Woodcut Tool website and download the comprehensive instructions for set up and use. Hope this helps.

Fredo, I did raise the grinder by 5mm to get to the trugrinds ideal height(155mm from base board to shaft center).
They say it can be up too 165 so might raise it some more?

Yep your thinking right, running it like this goes against my normal safety consensus of using guards!

Harry ,
your grinder looks to be the same model as mine .
16mm MDF gave it just enough clearance
