i tried my first ornamental peice today.

i only used a GMC woodlathe and angle grinder with sanding disk attached.

it was easyer than i thaught.

no i turned it down to a piramid shape then drew on the spirals and sanded/carved the center away. next time i will do a complete curl instead of a half:2tsup: .

yer thaught about getting an arbourtec thing but i recon i can do about everything with my sanding disk as with that thing.

Just thought I'd mention: a quick way to get rid of the waste when doing barley twists is to mark out the spiral and then drill it out every half inch or so. Don't try joining the holes together with the drill though... use your Dremel/Arbortech/whatever for that, otherwise thye drill can "dig in" and start removing chunks that you really don't want removed. :rolleyes: DAMHIKT.

Done properly, it can save quite a bit of time and effort. :thyel:

BTW, that's a good first effort, Weisy! I've only done a couple, enough to know I need a lot more practice. [sigh]
