I have an old jayco dove camper trailer that has snapped a cable that raises the pop top, also has a few pulleys with seized rollers (not to bad considering it's a 1979 vintage). what i was wondering has anyone replaced the cables, and are there any tricks or traps to worry about when doing the job??

Never done it, but have had a look in my 2005 windup camper to see how it works.

Check out for parts - http://www.camec.com.au/

for how it works see http://www.customcylindersintinc.com/camper_trailer_roof_lift_system.htm

Also try www.exploroz.com

maybe a jayco forum

good luck

I have 11 of these campers and have replaced dozens of cables. The best tip is not to pull the old cables out until you have attached a wire or string to it to pull the new one through.

If you get stuck, email me or ring me. See my details at campawayhire.com

replaced the cable and a few pulleys on the weekend, all went well. had to wind it up and down and then adjust the cables so the roof was level.
hopefully the next time I spend that long in the van will be when I'm on a fishing trip/ holiday:2tsup: :2tsup:
