G`day guys,I am currently turning some small items for a friend out of pine and jackarranda. The problem is she wants the finish to be high gloss but not to change the colour of the wood(must be kept white to match decore ?)
All the preps i`ve tried so far leave a yellowish tint to the timber or do not have a high gloss.Could anyone suggest a product that might save her life as the frustration factor is really starting to kick in here.
thanks

Have you tried De-waxed White Shellac? That should meet your requirements. If you unsure of where to get this stuff, Neil makes a good brew. Heres a link - Dewaxed Shellac (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/dewaxed.html).

Also there are commercial non-colouring coatings available. I just can't give you any brand names etc as I don't have the need to use them. A phone call to your local paint specalist supplier should help there. I am sure someone else will be able to offer advice on these though.

HTH..

Cheers!

Feast Watson (Orica/Cabot's) make a clear poly gloss that doesn't doesn't change the color. I've tried it on red box but I decided the yellowing stuff looks better.

For turned items that can be finished on the lathe use Shellawax Cream or Shellawax. Neither will change the colour of the timber any more than water will.

CLICK HERE (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/ubhome.htm) then on to the links to the finishes, etc.

PS they are both based on white shellac. If you want to keep the unwet whitewood colour of the timber and have a high shine it is to my knowledge impossible.
